Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2Cr 5:17
A Life Transformed by an Encounter with the Lord. Alex, Los Ninos Del Parque Church
Alex has been attending Los Ninos del Parque Church for more than 18 months now.
Before Christ, Alex recalls living a life of lies and a total addiction to drugs. A life of lies that only reinforced his bondage to drug abuse which included stealing to provide the means to support his habit. This included his own mother, who for 2 ½ years sent him approximately $40,000 believing his story that the money she sent was being used to provide food and shelter for her son.
Until one day, Alex a U.S. citizen hit bottom while wandering the streets of Tijuana. Alex still remembers the day when someone from Los Ninos del Parque church gave him a salvation tract and an invitation to attend the near by church. It was the Lords timing that brought him to Los Ninos del Parque Church and it was the love and support of Pastor Jose, that kept Alex coming back until he entered Los Ninos Del Parque’s Rehabilitation home.
Alex an atheist and rehab crasher of other programs in the U.S., was never able to turn away from his additions. He thought to himself, why not? I will try a Christian rehab program, perhaps they would show me more leniency than the other programs.
Alex entered the program, and moved into the house at the church which he shared with some times up to 17 other men. While on-site, he feed daily on the word of God, while receiving daily encouragement, love and prayer support from Pastor Jose and others. Alex realized that his life was out of balance and in need of reconciliation with God. It was within his first week at the Church that he asked the Lord to forgive him for his past and he committed his future to the Lord’s care. Later that week Alex learned what forgiveness really meant.
Since then, Alex has made amends with the people he hurt during his drug abuse years and with God’s help he will take care of the debts as well. He knows now that his life should be a witness for God and not the enemy. He has asked for forgiveness of those he hurt along the way and has shared his testimony with his sister. His journey has made an impact on her since she is the one person that knows Alex well enough to know when he faking it or telling the truth and this time she has seen a real change take place in his life.
Alex’s mom is also happy to hear on the phone that a change has taken place in her son, but she may not fully understand the significance of that change just yet. She did note that during a recent call to her, it was the first time in Alex’s life that he didn’t ask her for something. Alex having peace with God, is now praying for God’s timing and strength to share the truth with his mom about how he spent the money she gave him. Alex dreams of the day that he can teach a message at church with his mom their in the audience.
Alex also celebrates the fact that he brought his uncle William to the rehabilitation home to seek the Lord and healing from anger and drug abuse. He has now been at the rehabilitation home for more than 8 months and he is now working again and has accepted Christ as his savior.
The best part of Alex’s story is being reunited with a son that he abandoned as a baby. He had not seen him or had any communication with him for 13 years. Alex, being a new creation in Christ wanted to see his family. Alex began praying for his family and an opportunity to see his son. Alex shared his testimony with his ex-wife and he asked if their son could travel to Tijuana to see him. The Lord’s favor and blessing followed the request because since then there have been 6 or 7 visits with his son. Alex gave his son a bible as his first gift.
Alex’s past seems far behind him now because he no longer needs to lie, hide or steal from others to accomplish this will. Alex seeks the Lord daily to follow him and he feels the Lord working in him. Alex has hope for the future because of his relationship with Christ and he enjoys fellowship in community with other men in Christ and with God.
As a new creation on Christ, Alex now serves the Lord at Los Ninos del Parque Church as a leader of the children’s ministry, and he often assists with leading worship, teaching and participating in evangelical community outreaches.
